Update On The Expected Snow This Afternoon Into Early This Evening

I am making some changes to the forecast due to the fact that the snow intensity this afternoon into early this evening could be greater than previously expected across mostly southern and eastern parts of Worcester County. This means that I am increasing the expected snow totals for some parts of the area.

Radar imagery and weather reports indicate that it is now snowing across most areas near and especially south of the Mass Pike, including here in Sturbridge where I have observed some light snow pellets.

A heavier intensity of snow is now pushing northward from southern parts of Connecticut. This steadier snow, which will likely be moderate in intensity at times will overspread southern and southeastern parts of Worcester County between 1 and 1:30 pm.

By about 2-3 pm this afternoon, it is expected to be snowing pretty much everywhere across Western and Central Mass with this snow expected to continue through late this afternoon before it comes to an end from west to east by early this evening. I do think that the snow will fall at a moderate intensity at times across central and especially southern parts of Worcester County as well as across the lower Pioneer Valley of Western Mass between 3 pm and 7 pm.

My latest snowfall forecast map for this afternoon into early this evening is attached to this post. The highest snow amounts of 2 to 3 inches with isolated amounts of up to 4 inches is expected across areas of southern Worcester County near and east of I-395 as well as near and south of I-290. Elsewhere, generally 1 to 2 inches of snowfall looks likely this afternoon into early this evening.

While, the snow amounts aren’t going to be much at all, it will be enough to lead to the potential for slippery travel during this afternoon and evening’s commute. Take it slow if you are out and about this afternoon into early this evening.
