Some Areas Of Light Freezing Rain Are Expected During Saturday Morning Across Western & Central Mass

For Tonight & Saturday: Skies will start out clear this evening, but will become cloudy during the overnight hours of tonight as a warm front lifts northward towards our area.

Precipitation in the form of either periods of light rain or periods of light freezing rain depending on temperatures will break out first across Western Mass by 4-5 am Saturday morning and then across Central Mass by about 6-8 am Saturday morning.

At this point, it appears that the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass, including the Springfield Metro and the entire I-91 corridor, areas west of I-190 and areas near and north of Route 2 have the highest chance of seeing periods of light freezing rain during Saturday morning.

Temperatures for areas near and south of the Mass Pike might be just above freezing during Saturday morning leading to just rain occurring. That being said, the ground is quite cold due to the recent very cold temperatures and because of this, the rain may still freeze on all surfaces even though the temperatures are above freezing during Saturday morning.

Because of this, I urge everyone across the entire area to be cognizant that very slick conditions will probably occur throughout Saturday morning leading to hazardous travel conditions beginning around sunrise Saturday morning and lasting through all of Saturday morning.

During Saturday afternoon, periods of rain can be expected across much of the area. One area that might need to be watched is the Pioneer Valley of Western Mass where temperatures might be slow to rise to above freezing. Because of this, some freezing rain might continue into the first part of Saturday afternoon.

Low temperatures tonight will be between 25 and 30 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 40 Degrees.

Winds tonight will be Southwest at 5 to 10 mph. Winds on Saturday will be Southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Through Monday: Mild and wet weather is expected from Sunday through Monday across the entire area as a robust frontal system pushes eastward.

Sunday will be cloudy and there will be some scattered rain shower activity from time to time. High temperatures will be near 50 Degrees. Winds will be South at 10 to 20 mph.

Rain will overspread the entire area around midnight on Sunday night and then continue through the after midnight hours of Sunday night. Temperatures will be between 45 and 50 Degrees throughout Sunday night. Winds on Sunday night will be South at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.

The rain is expected to continue through a large part of Monday before it comes to an end by late afternoon. High temperatures will be near 55 Degrees.

Around one inch or so of total rainfall is expected during late Sunday night and Monday.
