For Tonight: A fast moving low pressure system and its associated cold front will move across the region during tonight.
Rain will first begin across Western Mass by about 6 pm or so. The rain will then begin across Central Mass by about 7 pm or so.
The rain is then expected to continue for several hours tonight before it comes to an end by 1 am across Western Mass and by about 2 am across Central Mass.
The exception to this looks to be across the northernmost Worcester Hills (near and north of Route 2) where the precipitation will be a rain-snow mix that changes to all wet snow at times during tonight. Any snow accumulations will be less than one inch.
Rainfall totals tonight are expected to average between one third of an inch (0.33”) and one half of an inch (0.50”).
Low temperatures tonight will be near 35 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph before midnight and West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph after midnight.
Thursday: Sunny to partly sunny skies can be expected throughout the day on Thursday. High temperatures will be between 40 and 45 Degrees. Winds will be West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday Through Saturday: A coastal storm system is going to be the main weather player from Friday through Friday night and into Saturday. The question continues to be how close will this storm system track to our area. The latest weather forecast guidance has shifted a little further to the west with this storm system’s forecast track. These trends to the west are something that’ll need to be watched closely as any shifts to the west of the storm track would mean a little more in the way of accumulating snow, especially across Central Mass.
For Now, My Thinking Is That we will in all likelihood see light snow begin across the entire area during Friday afternoon. This light snow is expected to continue off and on through Friday night and Saturday morning before it ends later Saturday morning. Based on what I’m seeing right now, the steadiest light snow looks to occur across eastern parts of Worcester County with more intermittent light snow expected as you head into Western Mass.
If my thinking works out, it would mean snow amounts might range from less than one inch across Western Mass to 1 to 2 inches across Central Mass.
High temperatures Friday will be near 35 Degrees. Low temperatures Friday night will be between 20 and 25 Degrees. High temperatures Saturday will be near 30 Degrees.
Sunday Through Monday: Some of the coldest temperatures so far this season are expected on Sunday and Sunday night as a big high pressure system builds over the area.
Sunday will be sunny with high temperatures between 20 and 25 Degrees.
Sunday night looks clear with low temperatures between 2 and 8 Degrees. In fact, it’s quite possible that some of the deeper valley and normally colder spots will see low temperatures of Zero to 5 below zero on Sunday night.
Monday looks sunny with high temperatures between 25 and 30 Degrees.
Christmas Eve & Christmas Day: The weather for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is looking a little more wintry as compared to what it looked like even yesterday.
The weather system that I’m watching which could bring us wintry weather is a low pressure system that looks to dive southeastward from the Great Lakes region on Christmas Eve to near Southern New England by Christmas Morning. The weather forecast guidance has seemed to trend towards this low pressure system being more robust and thus possibly producing accumulating snow at some point between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Obviously, given the holiday festivities and travel that will be going on during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, this is a weather system that will need to be watched very closely.
For now, I’m going with increasing clouds during Christmas Eve with the possibility of snow on Christmas Eve Night into Christmas Day.
High temperatures Christmas Eve will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. High temperatures Christmas Day will be near 35 Degrees.
