To use a quote from Professor Hinkle from Frosty the Snowman, I’m going to be busy, busy, busy the next week or so due to a pretty active weather pattern that’ll bring us weather systems every couple of days or so. This is in addition to trying to get everything ready for Christmas.
For Tonight: Clear to partly cloudy skies can be expected throughout tonight with low temperatures between 30 and 35 Degrees. Winds will be West at 7 to 14 mph.
Wednesday: Sunny skies can be expected during the morning with skies becoming cloudy during the afternoon as a frontal system approaches from the west. High temperatures will be near 45 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday Night: A fast moving cold front is expected to move across the area during Wednesday night bringing with it rain to much of the area. The exception might be across the higher elevations of the Worcester Hills and across the Berkshires where the rain will probably chance to wet snow at times during the overnight hours of Wednesday night. Any snow accumulations in the higher elevations of the Worcester Hills and the Berkshires will be one inch or less.
Rain will begin across Western Mass around 5-6 pm or so Wednesday evening. Rain will then begin across Central Mass around 6-7 pm or so.
The rain is then expected to continue throughout the night on Wednesday night before it comes to an end first across Western Mass about 3-4 am Thursday morning and then across Central Mass about 4-5 am Thursday morning.
The exception to this looks to be across the highest hilltops of the Worcester Hills and across the Berkshires where wet snow looks to occur during the overnight hours of Wednesday night. Again, as I already mentioned, any snow accumulations will be perhaps one inch or less.
Rainfall amounts during Wednesday night will be between one quarter of an inch (0.25”) and one third of an inch (0.33”).
Low temperatures on Wednesday night will be near 35 Degrees. Winds will be South at 5 to 10 mph before midnight and West at 10 to 20 mph after midnight.
Thursday: Generally partly sunny skies can be expected during the day on Thursday with high temperatures between 40 and 45 Degrees. Winds will be West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Friday: Skies are expected to become cloudy during the day on Friday as we continue to keep a close eye on a storm system that might bring us a bit of snow during Friday night and Saturday morning. High temperatures will be between 30 and 35 Degrees.
Some Snow Is A Possibility During Friday Night & Saturday Morning: An area of low pressure is expected to track to the east of the Cape during Friday night. How close this storm tracks to Southern New England will determine how much snow occurs during Friday night and Saturday morning.
Weather forecast guidance continues to show many different scenarios, which is making for an uncertain forecast. Some of the weather forecast guidance is showing a storm track well east of the region, which would mean very little, if any snowfall. Now, some other weather forecast guidance is forecasting a closer storm track to the area, which would lead to perhaps a few inches of snow across the area on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Here Are My Thoughts: The upper air flow across the area is quite fast and seems to be oriented more in a west to east direction. To see a decent snowfall across our area from a coastal storm system, you want to see a more southwest to northeast directed upper-level wind flow and this is something we’re not going to see.
Because of this, I still think we’re possibly looking at a light snowfall during Friday night that comes to an end during Saturday morning. A storm track to the east and southeast of the area would potentially mean perhaps a 1 to 3 inch snowfall with the lower amounts occurring over Western Mass and the amounts closer to around 2 inches occurring across Central Mass.
Saturday Afternoon To Monday: Skies will become partly sunny by Saturday afternoon with clear skies expected on Saturday night. High temperatures Saturday afternoon will be between 30 and 35 Degrees. Low temperatures Saturday night will be near 10 Degrees.
The period from Sunday through Monday looks quite cold.
Sunday will be sunny with high temperatures between 20 and 25 Degrees.
Sunday night looks clear with low temperatures between 5 and 10 Degrees.
Monday looks sunny with high temperatures between 25 and 30 Degrees.
Christmas Eve & Christmas Day: Christmas Eve looks partly sunny with high temperatures near 35 Degrees.
Christmas Day looks cloudy and there may be some scattered snow showers around. That said, there are some weather forecast guidance that are hinting at the possibility of a more steady snow during the daytime hours of Christmas Day. I’m not buying into the scenario of a steadier snow, but it is something that I want to keep an eye on, just in case. High temperatures Christmas Day will be near 35 Degrees.
