Heavy Rain Expected From About Midnight Tonight Until About Sunrise New Year’s Day Morning; Very Windy Conditions Expected Wednesday Night Through Thursday

For Tonight & New Year’s Day: An area of low pressure and its associated frontal system will push eastward tonight reaching our area by sunrise Wednesday morning. This frontal boundary and the strengthening low pressure system associated with it will cross the area during Wednesday morning. This weather system will bring with it a heavy soaking rain to the entire area from just after midnight tonight until about early to mid-morning on New Year’s Day.


Heavy rain will begin across Western Mass between 11:30 pm and 12:30 am. This heavy rain will then begin across Central Mass between 12:30 am and 1:30 am.


This heavy rain is then expected to continue for several hours during the late night hours of tonight and the predawn hours of Wednesday morning. There is even the possibility for a thunderstorm or two between about 1-2 am and 6-7 am Wednesday morning.


Rain will come to an end across Western Mass by about 6 am Wednesday morning and then across Central Mass by about 7-8 am Wednesday morning.


Rainfall totals of between one half of an inch and one inch can be expected with this latest round of rain.


Once the rain ends first thing Wednesday morning, skies will remain cloudy throughout the day on New Year’s Day. In addition, there’s the possibility for a few scattered rain showers during Wednesday afternoon as a secondary cold front moves through the area. One exception looks to be across the Berkshires where some scattered snow showers are expected during the late afternoon hours.


Low temperatures tonight will be between 35 and 40 Degrees. High temperatures New Year’s Day will be near 45 Degrees.


Winds tonight will be East at 10 to 20 mph. Winds on Wednesday will be North at 7 to 14 mph in the morning and West at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph in the afternoon.


Very Windy Conditions Wednesday Night: Once that frontal boundary pushes to the east, it is expected to become very windy during Wednesday night as colder air moves into the region. These very windy conditions could lead to downed tree limbs and the possibility of some downed power lines and some power outages.


Cloudy skies are expected during Wednesday evening. In addition, there will also be some scattered snow and rain showers around during the evening.


Skies will become partly cloudy during the after midnight hours of Wednesday night.


Low temperatures will be between 25 and 30 Degrees.


Winds will be West at 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph throughout the night.


Very Windy Conditions Continue Throughout Thursday: A very windy day is expected on Thursday with west winds that’ll gust up to 50-60 mph at times. These very windy have the potential to lead to downed tree limbs and power lines leading to some power outages.


A mixture of sunshine and clouds can be expected throughout the day on Thursday. High temperatures will be between 35 and 40 Degrees.


Winds on Thursday will be West at 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50-60 mph at times.


Friday: Partly sunny skies with less wind can be expected on Friday. High temperatures will be near 35 Degrees. Winds will be West at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph.


This Weekend: A cold and windy weekend can be expected across the region.


Saturday looks partly sunny with high temperatures between 25 and 30 Degrees.


Saturday night will be partly cloudy with low temperatures between 10 and 15 Degrees.


Sunday looks partly sunny with high temperatures near 25 Degrees.
