There is the possibility for a mixture of very light snow and very light ice across the lower Pioneer Valley of Western Mass during the after midnight hours of tonight into the first part of Monday morning. Across the middle and upper Pioneer Valley and across Central Mass, very little in the way of mostly light snow is expected during the early morning hours of Monday morning.
Let’s break it down a little more by region:
Western Mass: Precipitation in the form of a mix of light snow and light freezing rain will begin across the lower Pioneer Valley by about 2-3 am Monday morning. Across the middle and upper Pioneer Valley, precipitation in the form of light snow will begin by about 2 to 3 am Monday morning.
The icy mixture of light snow and light freezing rain will continue through the Monday morning commute across the lower Pioneer Valley. Across the middle and upper Pioneer Valley, light snow is expected to continue through the Monday morning commute.
This means that icy travel with hazardous travel conditions can be expected across the lower Pioneer Valley, including the Springfield Metro during the entire Monday morning commute. Be ready for slow going on area roads if you are anywhere around the Springfield Metro with these hazardous travel conditions expected to extend southward into the Hartford Metro.
For areas across the middle and upper Pioneer Valley (from about Hadley and points north), light snow is expected to continue through the Monday morning commute. Even though it’ll be snowing very lightly, any accumulations will be limited to a dusting at most and should not adversely impact travel.
All precipitation across Western Mass is expected to come to an end by about 9 am Monday morning.
Central Mass: Light snow is expected to begin across areas west of Worcester (this includes the Worcester Hills west of I-190, the entire I-84 corridor and areas of the Mass Pike from about Auburn and points west) about 4 to 5 am Monday morning.
This light snow is expected to continue across areas west of Worcester through the Monday morning commute before it ends by about 8-9 am Monday morning. Accumulations of snow will be a very light dusting and probably will not impact travel at all.
One area that might need to be watched is the area south of the Mass Pike between I-84 and I-395 where some light freezing rain might occur between 5 am and 8 am Monday morning. While any ice amounts will be extremely light, it might be just enough to lead to hazardous travel conditions during the Monday morning commute.
For areas in the Worcester Metro and points east, there might be a period or two of very light snow between 5 am and 8 am Monday morning which will amount to very little. This is due to a strong high pressure system that’ll help to dry up any precipitation as it pushes eastward across Central Mass.
