A Few Snow Showers & Snow Squalls Are Expected During Tuesday Morning; 1 To 2 Inches Of Snow Accumulation Is Still Possible From Late Tuesday Night Into The First Half Of Wednesday Morning

For Tonight: A strong cold front is expected to approach our area from the west during tonight.

Skies will start out clear this evening, but will become cloudy during the after midnight hours. It will be windy throughout tonight. Low temperatures will be near 20 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

A Few Snow Showers & Snow Squalls Expected During Tuesday Morning: That strong cold front will push through the region during Tuesday morning bringing with it a few snow showers and snow squalls.

Current indications based on the latest data seems to point towards a few snow showers and snow squalls to affect Western Mass beginning around 7 am, peaking around 9 am and concluding by about 11 am. A few snow showers and snow squalls are expected to affect Central Mass beginning around 8 am, peaking about 9-10 am and concluding by between 11 am and noon.

Any snow showers and snow squalls that do move through will be capable of producing a quick hitting 15-30 minute period of heavy snow, blowing snow due to 40-50 mph wind gusts, near zero visibility & a quick one inch or so of snow accumulation. Because of this, hazardous travel conditions can be expected in areas that do see snow showers and snow squalls.

Updates on the snow shower and snow squall threat will be posted as needed.

Temperatures during Tuesday morning will be near 30 Degrees. It will be windy throughout Tuesday morning with West winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40-50 mph.

Tuesday Afternoon: Once that front moves through, it’ll usher in some colder temperatures into the area. Skies during Tuesday afternoon will be partly sunny and temperatures will fall through the 20s. Winds will be West to Northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph.

1 To 2 Inches Of Snow Accumulation Still Looks Possible From Late Tuesday Night Into The First Half Of Wednesday Morning: An area of low pressure is expected to cross the region during the day on Wednesday. It is looking more likely now that the low pressure system will cross southern New England and this track should be sufficient to produce a general 1 to 2 inch snowfall across Western and Central Mass from late Tuesday night into the first half of Wednesday morning.

Snow looks to begin across the region around 1-2 am or so Tuesday night and then continue through not only the predawn hours of Wednesday morning but also through the Wednesday morning commute. The snow looks to come to an end by mid-morning Wednesday.

As I already mentioned, I do think that we’re looking at 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation across the entire area from late Tuesday night into the first part of Wednesday morning.

A brief break in the snow still looks possible from late Wednesday morning until the early afternoon hours of Wednesday.

A secondary Arctic front is then expected to push through the area during the mid and late afternoon hours bringing with it the possibility of snow showers and isolated snow squalls.

High temperatures Wednesday will be near 35 Degrees. Winds on Wednesday will be West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday & Friday: An Arctic air mass will once again push into the area during Thursday before leaving the area by Friday. A warm front is expected to lift northward towards the area during Friday.

Thursday looks sunny, very cold and windy with high temperatures near 20 Degrees.

Friday now looks cloudy as that warm front approaches the area. In addition, some rain is possible during the afternoon. High temperatures Friday will be near 40 Degrees.

This Weekend: The weekend weather and especially the weather on Sunday will need to be watched very closely as it appears fairly likely that a low pressure system will head eastward from the central United States reaching the northeastern US during Sunday into next Monday. As always, the exact track of this low pressure system will be very important in determining what precipitation type we see and how much of that precipitation type accumulates.

That said, at this point, it appears that snow may end up being the primary precipitation type on Sunday afternoon into Sunday night that changes to a mix of snow and rain during next Monday. There could be enough snow on Sunday afternoon into Sunday night that leads to a few inches of snow to accumulate. At this point, it does not look like to be a big storm at all.

My forecast for the weekend is as follows:

Saturday looks partly sunny with high temperatures between 35 and 40 Degrees.

Sunday will be cloudy and there may be some snow during the afternoon into Sunday night. As I already mentioned, a few inches of snow accumulation looks possible & it does not look like it’ll be a big storm. High temperatures will be between 30 and 35 Degrees.
