For This Afternoon: Cloudy skies are expected throughout this afternoon as an area of low pressure approaches the area from the west.
Temperatures will be near 25 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph.
2 To 4 Inches Of Snow Accumulation Is Expected From About 9 pm This Evening Until About 3 am Monday Morning: An area of low pressure is expected to move quickly across southern New England tonight bringing with it about a 6 hour period of accumulating snow to all of Western and Central Mass.
Snow will begin across the entire area around 9 pm or so this evening.
A period of moderate snow looks likely to occur from about 10-11 pm until about 1 am when snow rates of between one half of an inch to one inch per hour looks likely.
The snow is then expected to quickly come to an end by about 3 am or so Monday morning.
My latest forecast snowfall map for tonight’s snowfall can be found attached to this post. Overall though, a general 2 to 4 inch snowfall can be expected across the entire area.
Temperatures during tonight will be between 20 and 25 Degrees. Winds will be Southeast at 5 to 10 mph before midnight and West at 5 to 10 mph after midnight.
Monday: The snow will be completely done by the time the sun rises on Monday morning.
Skies during the day on Monday will be cloudy with high temperatures between 40 and 45 Degrees. Winds will be Southwest at 8 to 16 mph.
Tuesday: A partly sunny day is expected on Tuesday with high temperatures between 35 and 40 Degrees. Winds will be West to Northwest at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph.
Wednesday: A partly sunny day is expected on Wednesday with high temperatures between 25 and 30 Degrees.
Two Storms To Watch – The First Occurring During The Day On Thursday & The Second Possibly Impacting Us On Saturday Night Into Sunday: The weather pattern looks like it’s going to get quite active as we get into later this coming week right through next weekend. Because of this, there are two storms that will really need to be watched closely.
The First Storm To Watch moves in by first thing Thursday morning and affects the region throughout much of the day on Thursday. There continues to be a considerable amount of uncertainty as to what types of precipitation this storm will bring to our area.
Some of the weather forecast guidance are still showing a storm track that would lead to a messy mixed bag of snow, freezing rain and then rain during the day on Thursday.
Other weather forecast guidance continue to point towards a colder solution leading to mostly all snow to occur during the day on Thursday.
At this point, I’m leaning towards a forecast that gives the region a mixed bag of snow to start with early Thursday morning that changes to ice and then rain during later Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon. Given this storm is still 4 days away, I’m not going to get much more detailed than that.
The Second Storm That I’m Watching looks to possibly occur during Saturday night into Sunday. Again, the uncertainty with where this storm will track and what sort of precipitation it’ll bring is quite large.
The weather forecast guidance are pointing towards many different solutions, including an all snow event as well as a storm that brings a mixed bag of snow, ice and rain.
Given this second storm is still about a week away, I’m not going to get much more detailed, except to say that there’s the possibility for a mixed bag of snow, ice and rain to occur during Saturday night into Sunday.
Both storm systems will be watched very closely and I will have many more updates for you in the coming days.
It's finally looking a bit more hopeful that we will see more snow this winter! It might not be an exciting snowstorm or anything, but it's better than nothing! Thank you Mother Nature!
